3 Places You Don't Want to Miss When Visiting Antioch, IL

Published on Jan 19, 2023 by Bridget Keeler

There are so many interesting things to see and do all across the country. Antioch, Illinois, is no exception, as there are several places you don’t want to miss when you’re in the area. Whether you enjoy being in the outdoors, learning about the town, or watching a live performance, Antioch has it all. Explore some of these locations, you won’t be disappointed.

Ravens Glen Preserve

With its rolling hills, scenic views, glacial lake, and woodland areas, Ravens Glen Preserve makes the perfect place to get outdoors in the fresh air. Near the main entrance, you’ll find several trails for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. Bring your fishing pole and cast your line off one of the two fishing piers into the 33-acre Timber Lake. This lake divides the park, and you can access more trails from the second entrance. You may spot birds, such as great blue heron, egrets, the eastern meadowlark, and other waterfowl, while you’re here.

The southern end of the preserve was once home to a dairy farm. It operated as the Raven Glen Farm prior to 1998, and many of the buildings that were once very modern, can still be seen at this site.

Palette, Masque, and Lyre Theatre

At the Palette, Masque, and Lyre Theatre, or more affectionately known as the PM&L Theatre, you can catch a live performance inside a building that dates back to the early 1900s. Since 1960, this theater has been enriching the lives of the local community with great entertainment throughout the year. Some of the shows to look forward to in 2020 include the classic story of “Annie” and the award-winning masterpiece, “The 39 Steps.” Invite your friends to come along to the show, as group discounts are available.

Additionally, if you’ve always wanted to try your hand at performing on stage, they’re always in search of new talent. You can also volunteer to help backstage and see what goes on behind-the-scenes.

Busy Brains Children’s Museum

Kids of all ages will have a great time at Busy Brains Children’s Museum. It’s a place where learning and exploration are encouraged through hands-on and interactive exhibits. In the Body Journey exhibit, kids will learn more about how the body works by climbing through a vein maze, exploring the digestive track, and making their way through the heart.

Let them build away in the KIDstuction Zone, where they’ll be able to see what it’s like to use a jackhammer and a Bobcat. Their imaginations can run wild in the Our Town exhibit. This child-size town has everything from a farmers market to a grocery store and provides them with plenty of opportunities to role play and learn more about the world they live in. There are also traveling exhibits, so this museum is always fresh.

The next time you’re looking for something fun to do in Antioch, Illinois, check out one of these places. No matter what you want to do, there’s something for everyone here. These are definitely some of the places you don’t want to miss.
