Ford is getting ready to introduce something new in the electric lineup. The all-new Ford Fathom is a midsize electric truck, and it’s the first vehicle built on Ford’s new Universal Electric Vehicle Platform. It’s designed to deliver more than you’d expect at a price that may surprise you. It starts at just over $28,000, seats five adults, and is compact enough to park with ease while still being a Ford truck. Preorders begin early 2027, and Kunes Ford of Antioch is the place to start planning.
A Starting Price That Gets Attention
Fathom has a starting MSRP of $28,350 with a standard-range battery. That figure does not include the $1,595 destination and delivery charge or dealer documentation fees, and the dealer sets the selling price. Even so, a price that starts in the high $20,000s makes this a truck many drivers will want to take a closer look at.
Value Without the Compromise
Ford designed Fathom so that a lower price doesn’t mean giving things up. Here is what Ford has shared so far:
- BlueCruise capable: Every Fathom is BlueCruise capable for hands-free highway driving. Please see Ford’s disclosures for BlueCruise availability and conditions.
- Bidirectional power capability: Fathom can send power back out, not just take it in. More on that below.
- Digital Key: Use your phone as your key.
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: Both are standard, along with Ford app remote control.
- A large touchscreen: Navigation is powered by Apple Maps.
- Room for the whole crew: Fathom seats five adults and is projected to offer more passenger volume than the Toyota RAV4.
Fathom Can Power More Than Your Drive
Most electric vehicles take in power to charge the battery. Fathom does that too, but it also offers bidirectional power capability, which means it can send AC power back to your home. When your home is properly equipped, that opens up two practical benefits:
- Backup power: If the power goes out, Fathom’s battery can help keep your home’s essentials running, such as lights, the fridge, and Wi-Fi.
- Potential savings: You could charge the battery overnight, when electricity is typically less expensive, then use that stored energy to help power your home when utility rates rise. This may help lower your monthly electricity costs. Actual savings depend on your home setup and your utility’s rates.
Ford has also noted that projected EPA-estimated driving range figures are not yet available. As soon as Ford releases them, that will be one of the most important details for any shopper to review.
One Truck, Plenty of Roles
Here’s where Fathom’s size really stands out. It’s compact enough to park easily, yet it’s still a Ford truck. That makes it a natural fit whether you need a daily driver, a work truck, or just a second family vehicle.
Why the Name Fits
Ford chose the name Fathom because real depth comes from understanding how people live. The word comes from the classic measure of open arms, and the idea is a truck that welcomes you in with an expansive interior and technology that adapts on the fly.
